LEWISTOWN - A Middleburg man with a background in finance and a desire to help people has started up his own firm.
On Dec. 5, Shawn A. Wilson launched S.A. Wilson & Associates LLC, an investment management and financial planning firm. The business, located on Monument Square in Lewistown, is a Registered Investment Advisor, registered with the Pennsylvania Securities Commission.
Wilson said he first got into this type of business through his education at Penn State University.

He has many years of experience working for Fortune 500 companies and local banks, he said, adding that he also held the position of stockbroker for a while.
"I always wanted to do financial planning," he said.
Though he and his family live in Middleburg, Wilson said he wanted to open S.A. Wilson & Associates in Lewistown because "I really like the area."
He said he believes the Juniata Valley could benefit from "somebody different," when it comes to financial planning.
"I believe that the consumer really needs some options as far as financial advice," he said.
Wilson said his firm is a fiduciary, meaning the business acts in the client's best interest at all times.
"The industry is changing," he said. "(It's the) fastest moving segment of financial advisors leaving broker dealers."
Wilson said many in the business are getting out of commission work, and getting into fiduciary work.
One reason for this is that people want consumer-friendly financial advice, he said.
"Everything's disclosed," Wilson said, explaining that clients know exactly what they're paying for.
"It's really just about sitting at the same side of the table," he said. "I really opened (the firm) up for the consumer. Everybody seems to want openness."
According to the firm's brochure, S.A. Wilson & Associates serves Mifflin, Juniata, Huntingdon, Perry and Snyder counties. It offers comprehensive or hourly, as-needed fee-only financial planning and investment management tailored to the client's needs and goals.
The firm is not commission-based, performance-based or quota-driven, according to the brochure.
"We also disclose all of our business practices and how we are compensated as part of our fiduciary duty to our clients," the brochure states.
S.A. Wilson & Associates is located at 3 W. Monument Square, suite 300. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and by appointment Friday.
