LEWISTOWN - Pre-orders for the limited edition hardback book, "Glory Days 2: Sports in the Juniata Valley," which will be published in time for the holidays by The Sentinel, are now being taken.
The new edition is a follow-up to the sold out "Glory Days: Sports in the Juniata Valley," published last year.
This year's edition will also be published in hardback format, and the page count has been increased to 144 pages in order to accommodate as many items as possible.
Hundreds of photographs, newspaper clippings and memorabilia have been submitted by area residents, sharing their special moments in sports in the Juniata Valley. The book's content will include items ranging from a 1876 picture of the Baltics Baseball Club of Mifflintown, to a photo of local medalists at the 2011 Keystone State Games, held July 30 in Harrisburg.
"The Sentinel is pleased to chronicle more of the vast history of sports in the area in this second volume," Ruth Eddy, Sentinel publisher, said.
Books may be pre-ordered for $19.95, which is a $5 discount from the regular price of $24.95, plus 6 percent Pennsylvania sales tax. There also will be a $5.95 shipping and handling fee for books that are not picked up at The Sentinel office.
The deadline for pre-orders is Sept. 30. The retail price after that date will be $24.95 plus tax and shipping and handling.
The books will be available for sale by Thanksgiving.
To place an order, use the form in the advertisements in the newspaper, or call the office at 248-6741.
