LEWISTOWN - The Mifflin County Library Association has launched its largest and most comprehensive fundraising campaign.
More than 7,000 adult library patrons will receive a letter detailing the services the libraries provide and requesting donations to help offset a decrease in funds from federal, state and local government sources. The campaign, entitled "A Bridge to Your Future," will focus on the services and resources the library provides for the community, according to information by Mifflin County Library Board President Robert T. Long.
"Many people do not know there are five branches in our system: Lewistown, Allensville, Kish, Milroy and Rothrock," Long said in a press release. "Many people are not aware of the wide range of services our (libraries) offer at no cost, such as local newspapers, free Wi-Fi, Internet access, downloadable books and audiobooks, 24/7 reference, career development databases and much more.
"Unfortunately, in 2010 the (library) receives $100,000 less in funds than it did in 2008 ... we are appreciative of the Friends of Mifflin County Library for their assistance ... however we feel we must ask our adult card holders to consider making a contribution."
The letter gives patrons many options to make a donation, including checks, money orders, charges to credit cards and a secure donation hotline. The letter also contains information on joining the Friends group, according to the information.
