Newcomers beat incumbents

MIFFLINTOWN - Two incumbents for Juniata County School Board lost spots in the fall general election to opposing candidates Tuesday, according to unofficial voting results.

Incumbent Gary Zeiders faced Glenda Ehrenzeller Leister in Region 7; and in Region 9, incumbent Daniel Clark ran against former school board member John Noss.

For Region 7, Leister received both the Republican and Democratic nominations; and in Region 9, Noss also won both parties' votes.

Leister received 339 Republican and 253 Democratic votes, while Zeiders received 189 Republican and 118 Democratic votes in Region 7.

In Region 9, Clark won 136 Republican and 86 Democratic votes, while Noss garnered 154 Republican and 139 Democratic votes. All of the opposed candidates cross-filed.

Unopposed school board candidates received the following votes within their regions:

Incumbent Christine Shadel, who cross-filed in Region 2, received 597 Republican and 199 Democratic votes.

Republican Melvin Brubaker, Region 3, received 445 Republican votes.

Past board member Ray Page, who cross-filed in Region 5, received 448 Republican and 183 Democratic votes.

Incumbent Democrat Danny Snyder, Region 6, received 161 Democratic votes.

Voters select candidates for the Juniata County School Board of Directors by region. The regions are: Region 1-Monroe Township, Region 2-Fayette Township, Region 3-Delaware and Susquehanna townships, Region 4-Walker Township, Region 5-Fermanagh Township, Region 6-Mifflin, Mifflintown and Thompsontown boroughs, Region 7-Beale and Milford townships, Region 8-Port Royal Borough, and Spruce Hill and Turbett townships, Region 9-Lack and Tuscarora townships.
