STATE COLLEGE (AP) - Penn State says Princeton hockey coach Guy Gadowsky will lead the Nittany Lions' fledgling men's hockey program.
Athletic Director Tim Curley announced Gadowsky's hiring on Sunday. Penn State will begin NCAA play in the 2012-13 season.
School officials announced in September plans to bring Division I hockey to Penn State. An $88 million donation from an alumnus is funding the construction of a multi-purpose arena and costs of starting up a team. The donation is the largest private gift in the school's history.
Gadowsky spent the last seven years at Princeton, compiling a 105-109-15 record and leading the Tigers to two NCAA tournament appearances. The Edmonton, Canada native was the coach at Alaska-Fairbanks for five seasons before heading to Princeton.
