LEWISTOWN - Lewistown Area High School girls basketball coach and borough resident Kevin Kodish will seek the Democratic nomination for Mifflin County Commissioner in the upcoming May primary, according to a release issued Saturday.
Kodish said he is excited about potentially becoming a major advocate for Mifflin County, the release states.
He is currently in his 29th year as director of communications for the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties in Harrisburg, but he is known as the girls basketball coach at Lewistown, a position he has held for the past 27 years.

"Mifflin County is home, and I am very interested in helping our area improve on many levels," Kodish said in the release. "In today's extremely challenging economic environment, it will take a team effort to make progress. Over the years I have tried to demonstrate a firm commitment to my job in Harrisburg, to the student athletes at Lewistown, and to my family. "
Kodish says he desires strong communication channels with other areas of the state as well as the attraction of new businesses and industries, according to the release.
"I would like to have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in creating an environment where all the constituencies of Mifflin County - commissioners, county employees, and citizens - can work cooperatively and creatively to enhance our county."
