Long-time public servant will not seek re-election

January 3, 2011
From staff reports

LEWISTOWN - Mifflin County Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts Patti Burke recently announced she will not seek re-election when her term of office expires at the end of 2011.

Burke, who began working in the Mifflin County Prothonotary Office in 1986 as First Deputy, was named Prothonotary in 2001, the release states. She was then elected to the position to fulfill the remainder of a term in 2002 and was re-elected in 2004 and 2008, the release indicates.

After spending 10 years as Prothonotary, she wants to retire and spend more time with her family, she told The Sentinel.

"I enjoyed working with the people that were in the courthouse and the people that came in, to help serve the public," Burke said.

"Over the past eight years it has been my goal to bring a sense of pride and quality of service to the prothonotary's office. The office has seen many changes over the years from when I first started working in it in 1986," Burke said in the release. "Although challenging at times, I have always put forth my best effort and done what I thought was right for the tax payers of Mifflin County.

"I have made lots of friends over the years and will miss the people the most. I want to thank the voters for electing me and putting their confidence behind me. That is a very humbling feeling."
