MIFFLINTOWN - The Mifflin-Juniata Career and Technology Center Joint Operating Committee accepted the resignation of its administrative director Tuesday during a meeting in Mifflintown.
The committee also passed a motion made by Chairman Randy Dressler to seek a new director internally.
Administrative Director Kevin O'Donnell accepted a job as superintendent of the Cameron County School District. His resignation is effective Aug. 6.
The committee also said O'Donnell be paid for all vacation and personal time per his compensation agreement and upon verification of accrued days.
O'Donnell was not present at the meeting.
The committee also discussed and approved a contract for the paving of the north side of the school parking lot.
Custodian Howie Lockett presented the four bids the school received after advertising the project.
Lockett said any project that costs more than $25,000 must be advertised and must pay the prevailing wage.
However, some of the bids either were not prevailing wage or did not indicate the wages, Lockett said. The lowest bid - $35,000 from Eastern Industries - did not include the prevailing wage, he said.
The committee awarded the project to Cramer Paving for $41,900 contingent upon verification that the bid factors in the prevailing wage. Board members Travis Parkes and James Hurlburt voted against the motion and Kirk Rager was absent.
Prior to the vote, Parkes questioned if they should proceed with the job this year.
Lockett replied that the north side of the lot is a "disaster" with potholes that could be a safety hazard. He said that the north side of the parking lot has never been repaved.
Assistant director Michael Lewis said the Mifflin County School District has taken over the MJCTC business office and the transition has been running smoothly.
Lewis also recognized student Johnathan Williams who competed in the SkillsUSA National Competition in June. While Williams did not place, he represented the school well, Lewis said.
The committee also approved Randy Dressler Jr. as a special education aid, which will be paid through Perkins funding, and Scott Hallinan as a substitute teacher for the culinary arts program.
Upon the request of Practical Nursing Coordinator Alicia Lentz, the committee also approved HomeHealth Lewistown Hospice: The Bridge as an affiliating agency with the program. Lentz said the agency was overlooked when the committee approved the agency list in June.
The MJCTC Joint Operating Committee will hold its next public meeting at 8 p.m. Aug. 10 at the school in Lewistown.
