LEWISTOWN - U.S. Representative Glenn "GT" Thompson, R-Pa., has announced his bid for re-election and plans to carry out a 17-county, two-day bus tour in the hope of continuing to serve Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District.

The "Working for Your Family's Future Tour" is slated to begin Tuesday in Juniata County and conclude Wednesday in clearfield County. It will cover 800 miles and 22 stops, according to a press release from Thompson's office.

"Serving the people of the 5th District this past year has been an honor, and it's with great humility that I seek their support to serve another term in Congress," Thompson said in the release.

"I fully recognize the challenges that are ahead - they are many and diverse. And I certainly recognize many of the frustrations the citizens of the 5th (district) have with the way Washington operates," he said. "I share that frustration. It is with those concerns that I seek re-election - in a renewed effort to give Washington back to the people."

Thompson said the nation's challenges are great, but the opportunities to make government work for the families across rural Pennsylvania are even greater.

"Yes, this past year has been difficult, but there have been glimmers of hope, which I believe will shine brighter in the comings months and years," he said.

Central Pennsylvania has exciting opportunities with Marcellus shale, and has been blessed with abundant resources, Thompson explained.

"We are home to some of the most innovative and entrepreneurial minds in the Commonwealth, and when coupled with the right federal policies of limited government, fiscal restraint, and middle-class and small business tax relief, I am convinced we can return Washington to the people," he said. "It is with these shared rural values that I ask for the support of my neighbors and seek re-election."

Thompson is slated to have breakfast from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Bread of Life Restaurant in McAlisterville, and then again from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. at the Honey Creek Inn in Milroy.

The tour will continue Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Ramada Inn in State College, and then move on to Bellefonte, Lock Haven, Williamsport, Wellsboro, Coudersport, Smethport, Bradford and Warren.

On Wednesday, Thompson will travel to Warren, Forest, Crawford, Venango, Clarion, Jefferson, Elk, Cameron and clearfield counties. For more information, visit www.thompson.house.gov.
