William E. Barger

LEWISTOWN - William E. Barger, 73, of Lewistown passed away at 11:27 a.m. on Dec. 28, 2009, at in Ohesson Manor.

William was born on Aug. 13, 1936, in Lewistown and is the son of the late Carl W. Barger and Gladys Dippery Barger.

William is survived by his wife, Mary K. (Irwin) Barger. He also is survived by a son, Stephen C. Barger and his wife Cynthia L. (Fleegal) Barger, of Lewistown; a son, Robert J. Barger and his wife Cynthia L. (Price) Barger, of Mechanicsburg; and a daughter, M. Jane Zappala and her husband Michael, of Downers Grove, Ill.

He also is survived by the following grandchildren, Lauren, Evan, Adam, Morgan, Jonathan, Ellen, Adrianne Barger, Lia and Nicolas Zappala.

William was preceded in death by a brother, Carl F. Barger.

William was a teacher and principal in the Mifflin County School District for 31 years. Previously, he taught in the Altoona School of Commerce for two years.

He coached football for Lewistown in 1967. He was a graduate of Shippensburg University and received his master's degree from Bucknell University.

He also was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge No .143 and the Coffee Run Fishing Club. He was formerly a member of the Elks No. 663.

William enjoyed attending local sporting events and watching Penn State football, the Steelers and the Pirates.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2009, at the St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Roth and the Rev. Robert Davidson officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be at the Juniata Memorial Park.

Barr Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 324 South Logan Blvd., Lewistown, PA 17044.
