McCLURE - Fred E. Hartman, 82, of Forbes Street, passed away at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.
He was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Beaver Springs, a son of the late Frank and Florence (Klinger) Hartman. On June 27, 1952, he married the former Lois L. Wagner who survives.
Fred had attended Beaver Vocational School and the PA Apprenticeship Council. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1947.
Fred was employed as a carpenter by C.S. Graybill, Frank C. Hartman, J.M. Young & Son, Inc., Fisher's Building and Supply, and retired from the Beavertown Weaving Mill.
He was a member of Mt. Bethel Church, McClure, a member of McClure Fire Co., and the McClure American Legion.
Fred enjoyed doing carpentry work, reading books on World War I and II, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Scott F. and Linda Hartman, of Sayville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Brad and Drew Hartman; one sister and brother-in-law, Mona Lou and Nelson Gilbert, of Beaver Springs; and four nieces, Kim Rigel and husband Daniel, of Beaver Springs, Linda Schol and husband Donald, of Port Trevorton, Jill Stewart, of Fairborne, Ohio and Sally Parthemer, of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah and brother in law Russell Balmer, brother George and sister-in-law Jean Hartman, brother Robert Hartman, brother in law Arthur Wagner; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anna Belle and Glen Goss; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George H. and Cleo Wagner; two nephews, Glen Goss Jr. and Wayne A. Balmer.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Bethel Church, McClure, with Pastor Donald L. Wise officiating.
