Lewistown Sentinel

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN - From a collection of more than 6,200 rewards cards, The Sentinel drew Bette Moore as the grand-prize winner for the "I Shop Local" promotion.

Moore, of Lewistown, won a total of $500 in gift certificates from local businesses. The rules of the contest stated that the winner could pick two of the participating businesses from which to receive a $250 gift certificate. Moore chose Burnham Hardware and Gifts and The Logan House for her certificates.

She said she was thrilled to win, stating that some of her friends had won weekly prizes.

In all, more than $1,800 in gift certificates were awarded in drawings from among shoppers who participated in the local shopping promotion. In total, business owners stamped cards more than 18,600 times to reflect a purchase made by local residents.

The promotion ran from Aug. 7 through the end of October, with 55 local businesses participating.

"We had a tremendous response from our readers, who greatly enjoyed the promotion," Sentinel Advertising Director Matthew Bolich said. "It also provided tangible evidence of the power of the local customer to our advertisers."
