MILROY - Several arrests were made in connection with a theft incident on Oct. 9 at the Mifflin County Recycling Center in Milroy.
Police said Scott Walter, 23, and Christopher Bonson, 27, both of Milroy, forced their way into the business along Naginey Road and removed 400 pounds of copper and approximately a dozen catalytic converters. Police said Walter and Bonson carried the items outside where Amanda Berrier, 19, of Mount Union, and Karissa Walters, 19, of Milroy, assisted in transporting and storing the stolen property.
Police said Berrier's vehicle was used to make several trips from the business to a home at 74 Creek Drive in Milroy, where the items were stored in the basement of the home.
During an investigation, police discovered that Zachary Scheffel, 29, and Eric Stever, 23, both of Milroy, had taken a deer on Oct. 5 and a search of the home along Creek Drive, where Karissa Walters and Scheffel both live, revealed a fresh deer hide and frozen meat in the refrigerator. Police said they contacted Officer Jeffery Mock from the Pennsylvania Game Commission who discovered 37 leg traps, muskrat stretchers and fleshing knives stolen from the state game lands shed in Oliver Township.
Police said a search warrant was executed on Scott Walter's residence but no stolen items were found. Police said Scheffel sold several of the catalytic converters to Kozak's Automotive Supply on Back Maitland Road and received more than $100 for the items. Police said Karissa Walters and Berrier were paid more than $100 to assist in the burglary.
Police said both Karissa Walters and Berrier were arrested and lodged in Mifflin County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Arrest warrants were obtained for both Bonson and Scott Walter, but police have not been able to locate either. Anyone with information regarding their location is asked to contact Mifflin County Communications at 248-9607. Police also are seeking information regarding the location of the stolen copper.
