BURNHAM - Paul J. Fagley, 82, of 114 Second Ave., Burnham, died at 4:35 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, surrounded by his family at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home.
Born April 15, 1927, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Mary (Kepler) Fagley Harlon and raised by his great-aunt, the late Minnie Fagley. His wife, Ruth (Taylor) Fagley, whom he married June 11, 1955, survives.
Also surviving are children, Paul T. Fagley and wife Kim of Burnham and Susan K. Sharp and husband Gregory of Elizabethtown, a half-sister, Mary (Harlon) Custer and husband Stanley of Harrisburg and a grandson, Matthew Sharp.
In addition to his mother and great-aunt, he was preceded in death by a half-brother, Jon Harlon.
He was a 1945 graduate of Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of WWII, serving in the Occupation Forces from 1945 until 1947 in Germany.
He was a self employed contractor and cabinet maker, he owned and operated the Chief Logan Trading Post from 1979 until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Ellen Chapel Church and the Service Sunday shool class.
He served on the Burnham Sewer Authority Board for many years.
He was an adult member of the Juniata Valley Council Boy Scouts of America and recently was awarded the 50 years Veterans Service Award. He was also the chairman of the local Klondike Derby for 36 years and in scouting he was known as Mr. Klondike Derby.
He helped with the woodwork restoration of the Embassy Theater and projects for Greenwood Furnace State Park.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham with the Rev. Mark Hill officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
