LEWISTOWN - A 24-year-old mother lost her life while her 1-year-old daughter was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident along Whiskey Road in Decatur Township, Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report.

Police said Kourtney S. Piper, of McClure, was traveling north on Whiskey Road around 3:15 p.m. For unknown reasons, Piper's Chevrolet Prism traveled off the right side of the roadway, police said.

Piper tried to correct this action and oversteered, traveling across both lanes of traffic and off the roadway to the left side of the road against a tree, police said.

Police added that there were no other vehicles involved and no mechanical failures inside her vehicle.

"It seems as though she lost control of her vehicle," Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown Trooper Jason Holland said.

Piper was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by Mifflin County Coroner Daniel Lynch, police said.

The 1-year-old female juvenile received injuries from the crash and was flown to Hershey Medical Center for treatment, police said. She is listed in serious condition Tuesday evening, an official from Hershey Medical Center said.
