YEAGERTOWN - For the second time this year the Mifflin County Drug Task Force will hold an auction with literally hundreds of items up for bid.
Task force member Cpl. Robert Haines, of the Mifflin County Regional Police Department, said there are "tons of things" for people to choose from, everything from cars and boats to tools and televisions.
Mifflin County District Attorney Steve Snook said that "if you're using a car to transport drugs here, we are taking it."
Snook said the task force started to seize cars several years ago, because it started to notice some of the same vehicles, driven at times by different dealers, were showing up again and again in different drug cases. The task force has been "a victim of its own success," and that is why there has been a need to have another auction this year.
Snook said the auctions are extremely important for the task force because the majority of its operational funding comes from the sales.
"We use it to pay officers for overtime involved and for equipment we use that aids us in drug investigation ... some of the money is used for education for kids. We try to use the money for a variety of things," Snook said.
The auction is set for 4 p.m. on Sept. 18th and 9 a.m. on Sept.19th, at 13225 Ferguson Valley Road in Yeagertown. For more information, visit www.chesneyauction.com.
