POSTED: July 3, 2009

MIFFLINTOWN - A one-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening along Red Rock Road in Juniata County claimed the life of a McAlisterville man, Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report.

Police said Rusty James Nipple, 40, of McAlisterville, was traveling north on Red Rock Road when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of his vehicle, crossing into the southbound lane of traffic and off of the roadway.

Nipple's vehicle struck a tree on the left side of the roadway but continued to travel until striking two more trees, according to the report. Nipple's vehicle came to a final rest facing west down an embankment, the report indicates.

Nipple was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, police said. The accident is still under investigation.

Police were assisted at the scene by Mifflintown Fire and Rescue, Port Royal EMS, Central Juniata EMS and Fayette Fire Company.

A full obituary for Nipple appears on page A6 of today's Sentinel.
