Angelo L. Vannicola

REEDSVILLE - Angelo L. Vannicola, 81, of 109 Woodland Circle, Reedsville, died at 1:20 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at the Golden Living Center-William Penn.

Born Nov. 1, 1927, in Summit Hill, he was the son of the late Louis and Christina (Arcari) Vannicola. He is survived by his wife, Claire, (Davis) Vannicola, whom he married on June 26, 1954.

Also surviving: daughters, Kristie A. Klinger and her husband, Neil, of Winfield, and Karen V. Treaster and her husband, Ed, of Douglasville, Ga.; grandchildren, Carly and Grant Klinger and Corey and Mitchell Treaster.

Brother and sister surviving are: Anthony Vannicola and his wife, Bette, of Easton, and Mary Kanick, of Summit Hill.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II.

He was a graduate of the State Police Academy, in Harrisburg, Class of 1951.

He was a Pennsylvania State Trooper who enlisted July 2, 1951; attained the rank of corporal on Feb. 6, 1964, and the rank of sergeant on May 7, 1970.

He retired on July 23, 1986 with 35 years of service.

He was stationed in Punxsutawney, Troop C, from 1951 to 1964, and then transferred to Hollidaysburg, Troop G. He was stationed in Lewistown from 1964 to 1972, and was Lewistown Station Commander from 1972, until retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Lewistown, and the Punxsutawney Elks Lodge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with the Rev. John Bateman officiating. Private interment will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

There will be no public viewing, however, family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the Golden Living Center, 163 Summit Drive, Lewistown, PA 17044.
