LEWISTOWN - The ghosts, goblins and ghouls are about to roam the streets of Lewistown.
Fame Emergency Medical Services' annual Halloween Parade is set to step off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 in downtown Lewistown.
This is the third year the parade is under the sponsorship of Fame EMS and, for the second year in a row, the parade will begin at a different location than in years past, Fame EMS Chief Pat Shoop said.
"We are going to have the parade participants line up along Water Street and have the parade begin at the corner of Water Street and Dorcas Street," Shoop explained.
Shoop said organizers of the popular event decided a year ago that moving the parade lineup to Water Street makes the most sense, in order to reduce the amount of traffic congestion that occurs along Valley and the surrounding streets during the more traditional downtown Lewistown parades.
Parade entrants are asked to report to the registration desk, which will be located at the corner of West Water Street and South Juniata Street. At the desk, marchers will receive an identification number that will tell them their parade lineup.
Shoop said that again this year, any candy being distributed during the parade must be handed out to the crowd, not thrown from vehicles. He added that those not following these rules will be disqualified from parade prizes. No three or four-wheelers are allowed in the parade.
Categories for this year's parade are as follows:
Halloween float (trailer length limited to 48 feet)
patriotic float
twirling group
sports team
Halloween walkers
patriotic walkers
cheerleaders
emergency services
To be eligible for prizes, Shoop said entry forms must be completed and submitted to the Juniata Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, Historic Courthouse, 1 W. Market St., Lewistown, PA, 17044, no later than Oct. 27. Forms are available at the Chamber office.
Each of the categories will have a first-place $75 prize and a $25 prize for second place.
