PORT ROYAL - A 32-year-old Port Royal man was flown to Hershey Medical Center after a two-vehicle accident late Friday night in Walker Township, Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report.
A vehicle operated by Kevin L. Adams struck another vehicle, driven by Abby Nace, 18, of Mifflintown, from behind at a high rate of speed around 10:54 p.m., according to the report. The impact caused Nace's vehicle to spin out of control on state Route 3002 before exiting the roadway and striking a utility pole with its back end, shearing off the pole, police said.
Adams also lost control of his vehicle, which ran off the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest blocking both lanes, police said.
Adams had to be extricated from his vehicle by emergency personnel and flown to Hershey Medical Center for treatment, while Nace was transported to Lewistown Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the report states. A nursing supervisor at Hershey Medical Center said a condition update for Adams was not available on Sunday.
Police said alcohol was a factor in the accident and charges are pending against Adams. He also is facing charges of drug paraphernalia and drug possession in Dauphin County for items found in his clothing while at Hershey Medical Center, police said. The drug-related charges are under the jurisdiction of the Derry Township Police Department in Dauphin County.
Port Royal EMS and Central Juniata EMS assisted police at the scene of the accident.
