Williamsport clinches SawBuck series

August 16, 2008
Lewistown Sentinel

WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport Crosscutters plated four runs in the fourth inning, three on a homer by Jim Murphy, but had to hold off a late State College comeback attempt to clinch the 2008 SawBuck Series with a 5-4 win at Historic Bowman Field.

Williamsport (27-28) started off the fourth with five hits in a row. After Cody Overbeck smashed a double off of the left shin of Spikes starter Kyle McPherson (1-3), Murphy stepped up and hit his first homer of the year for Williamsport to give the Crosscutters the lead. McPherson appeared to be okay after the line drive off of his leg, staying in the game for four more batters.

State College (11-43) managed to come back off of the Crosscutters' Michael Schwimer. In the eighth, Chase d'Arnaud and Jeremy Farrell each singled. Then, after moving up on a groundout, d'Arnaud and Farrell both scored on Josue Peley's two-run single.

However, Schwimer stopped the bleeding and picked up his fifth save of the year.
