Spikes get second straight victory over Scrappers
NILES, Ohio — State College Spikes blasted four home runs Sunday night at Eastwood Field in their 10-5 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrapers. Eight of the Spikes’ 10 runs were scored on home runs. The Spikes (13-47) and Scrappers (26-37) played three innings of scoreless baseball to start off the night until Kyle Morgan put a run on the board for the State College with a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning. Morgan went 3-for-3 on the night, scored four runs and walked twice in his second consecutive three-hit game. Andy Vasquez added to the Spikes’ lead in the sixth i with a three-run homer to right field. Vasquez did nearly the exact same thing in the eighth with a two-run blast Vasquez went 3-for-5 on the night, scoring twice and collecting five RBIs. Ciro Rosero contributed a two-run homer of his own in the seventh. Spikes starter Rudy Owens (2-6) allowed only five Scrappers to reach base, pitching five hitless innings to earn the win.
