Lions stifle Boilermakers
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Penn State’s defense punched Purdue in the mouth, and the Boilermakers showed they’re all style and no substance. Again. Purdue likes to sling the ball all over the place and allegedly has a high-powered offense. So what exactly does this say about the Boilermakers?: They scored fewer points (6) at home against Penn State than Division I-AA Coastal Carolina did (10) on the road against the Nittany Lions. Saturday’s 20-6 win in the Big Ten road opener at Ross-Ade Stadium kept No. 6 Penn State (6-0) perfect. It also proved: — It doesn’t matter where Joe Paterno coaches from — the press box or the sideline — because his players don’t let that bother them. — The Lions’ offense, explosive through five games averaging 49.8 points, still has some kinks to work out. — Penn State’s defense can carry the load when the offense struggles, no surprise since it’s been that way for years. ‘’The sky’s the limit for this defense,’’ linebacker Navorro Bowman said.
