Orlando hasn’t been fairy tale for Lions
We’ve long known that Disney World is the place where dreams come true. But not far away is the Florida Citrus Bowl, a place where it’s been Penn State’s nightmares that have come true. New Year’s Day marks Penn State’s fifth trip to the Capital One Bowl (formerly known as the Citrus Bowl) and the results have been less than favorable for the Nittany Lions. Things got off to a rocky start for Penn State in its first sojourn to Orlando in January of 1988. Just one season removed from the team’s second national title, Clemson handed Joe Paterno’s squad its worst bowl defeat in history a 35-10 drubbing. The lone bright spot in “Disneyville” was game that gave Penn State momentum for its undefeated season in 1994. Receiver Bobby Engram was the offensive MVP in a 31-13 shelling of tennessee on New Year’s Day of ’94. But then things went south for the Lions — even further than the Florida location of the gam.
