“Keep Going: 10 Ways to Stay Creative in Chaotic Times” by Austin Kleon
Whether you’re an artist or an entrepreneur, a parent or a project manager, this book will help you push through despair, chaos or that looming sense that the world is falling to piece around us. According to Austin Kleon, author of “Steal Like an Artist,” the world is crazy. Creative work is hard. How do you keep going? In “Keep Going,” Kleon shows 10 ways to stay creative, focused, and true to yourself. 1. Every day is Groundhog Day; 2. Build a bliss station; 3. Forget the noun, do the verb; 4. Make gifts; 5. The ordinary + extra attention = the extraordinary; 6. Slay the art monsters; 7. You’re allowed to change your mind; 8. When in doubt, tidy up; 9. Demons hate fresh air and 10. Plant your garden.
I really believe that every day is Groundhog Day. We have the chance to start fresh, approach things in a new way, and work at what we put off. How do you wake up and get into that groove? You can find ways or things that inspire you. I find it helpful to write things down in a journal (I can forget so many things) so that I can look at the bigger picture and get a firm grip on things. When my thoughts remain floating in my head, they can seem daunting and I can easily give up, thinking that things will be insurmountable.
It can help to tidy up your living space, be it your desk, bedroom, kitchen, or car. Tidying up your common rooms can help tidy up your mind and thoughts.
Whether you’re burned out, starting out, starting over, or wildly successful, “Keep Going” is just the encouragement you need to keep you on the path to more creative work. I will be finding inspiration in these pages as I plan on new things for the rest of 2019 and beyond. You can find this book in our New Adult Nonfiction section.
