Thanks to all who cared for me in time of need
To the editor:
August 29, 2019. When I started my day, I had no idea how it would be ending. You never expect the magnitude of a life-altering event, and looking back, I still can’t believe it happened to me.
First, an enormous thank you to Dr. Sean Burke for saving my life! His knowledge, dedication and compassion are astounding. Some doctors don’t listen, really listen, to their patients, but Dr. Burke does. He didn’t give me the brush off when I told him how I was feeling. He asked questions, ordered tests and reassured me that he would get to the bottom of my health concern. I am blessed to have Dr. Burke as my guardian angel.
Second, let me tell you how wonderfully the staff at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital treated me. Everyone in the ER was fantastic! The doctors, nurses, and X-ray techs treated me with care and respect. Dr. Burke called to advise them of my situation and they were waiting for me when I walked in the doors. They placed me in a room immediately; responding quickly and realizing the seriousness of the matter. I am forever grateful for their sense of urgency.
I also want to thank the Fame EMS crew. Even though my trip to the Helipad was short, I felt very safe while I was under your care. You are a true blessing to this community and I thank you for your service.
The crew from Life Flight was awesome! My flight nurse, Kevin, was an angel. He was everything I needed him to be. He made me smile during my crisis, and made me comfortable during my flight to Holy Spirit. If you know me, you have to know that I am petrified of flying. Never ever would I have believed I could endure a ride in a helicopter, but I did, and I have the Life Flight crew to thank for that.
I am grateful beyond measure for Dr. Sharma and the staff at Holy Spirit. Simple truth, you gave me the gift of life! You were ready for me the moment the helicopter landed, and you took care of me until the moment I left your hospital. If I had to go through this, I’m thankful to be under your care.
Then, there is my community. I thank each and every one who reached out to me and my family. Words cannot describe the outpouring of love and support we received; it was a blessing to be consoled by this community. The love, prayers, meals, cards, gifts, flowers and acts of kindness are something I will never forget. It was overwhelming, and I must say, I am proud to be a resident of Mifflin County. Some people are quick to complain about Mifflin County and Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital, but I have nothing but praises to sing for both.
Last but not least, I thank my Lord and Savior for giving me more time on this beautiful earth. I praise him for my family, friends, neighbors and this awesome community.
