To keep America great we must ‘put people first’
To the editor:
The way to keep America great will always be to “put people first.” Giving huge tax cuts to the corporations and the wealthy didn’t prevent economic recessions and stock market crashes for the Reagan and George W. Bush administrations, but they ran up the national debt then just like the Trump administration tax cuts are doing now.
Increasing government spending for national defense while cutting taxes for the rich and powerful increases budget deficits and this increases the national debt, which is currently over $22 trillion. President Eisenhower would roll over in his grave if he knew what’s happening now.
Cutting spending for health care and Social Security to reduce budget deficits would hurt working class people who didn’t benefit from any of those tax cuts. The key to keeping America great is to “put people first.”
