A vote for Book is a vote for people over party

To the editor:

I remember the first time I voted in a national election. I was a registered Republican and voted for Richard M. Nixon for President of the United States. Since then, I have come to the realization that not every republican is right for office. Nor for that matter is every democrat the best choice for office.

As a registered Republican, does that mean I always support the same views as those in the republican party? No. Since that first vote for Mr. Nixon, I have supported and voted for the most qualified candidate, regardless of which party was involved. I voted for Jimmy Carter because I supported his moral values.

Political situations during the last few months to 10 or so years clearly indicate the sometimes negative effect of the party machine or “good old boy” party control as some might refer to it.

You will surely agree with that unless you have been living in a cave, had your head buried in sand, or are a recent visitor from outer space.

Voting for a particular candidate simply because that person belongs to the same party in which you are registered serves only one purpose: the ability to say “I voted.” Won’t you agree that it is of far greater importance to vote for the most qualified candidate, regardless of party affiliation?

While all elections are significant, those that affect me most, where I live and work, are of greatest importance. That brings me to the upcoming election for the 82nd District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Elizabeth Book is by far the most qualified candidate with a proven track record of education and dedication.

I have had the opportunity of talking with Elizabeth on several occasions. I share and support her views on the Second Amendment, pro-life, school choice, emergency services and other issues facing those of us who live and work in this part of Pennsylvania.

As an independent candidate, Elizabeth is willing to work with both parties, which means both parties will be eager to support Elizabeth and our 82nd District.

Elizabeth Book is dedicated to finishing everything she starts. A case in point: her education. In 2006, Elizabeth graduated in the top 2 percent in her class from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in history and sociology. A year later, 2007, she earned her master’s in library and information science from the same university.

Elizabeth worked as a school librarian at Lewistown Middle School until the birth of her son and currently writes for the Juniata Sentinel. She is married to Lucas Book and they are the parents of two sons, Lucas and Jackson.

I fully support and am endorsing Elizabeth Book for our 82nd District seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. I urge you to do likewise if you care about our area.
