Local chapter of support group closes down

Dear fellow bereaved parents and family members:

About 29 years ago, the Juniata Valley Chapter of The Compassionate Friends was started to assist families grieving the death of a child of any age or any cause.

Over the years many parents and other family members have reached out to our group and found support and hope. During this time parents have served in leadership to keep the chapter going.

Due to decreasing attendance and lack of participation in our monthly support group, we regretfully came to the decision to close this chapter.

We want to thank the Grove Memorial United Methodist Church in Lewistown for providing us a place to hold our monthly meetings and our annual candle lighting program. We appreciate all the love gifts sent in memory of your children that were used to help meet our chapter expenses.

We also thank The Sentinel and the County Observer for publishing our meeting information each month. They also would include our annual candle lighting program that was held in December in memory of our children.

We encourage you to reach out to other grief support groups in our area. There are other Compassionate Friends chapters and their information is on The Compassionate Friends website.

We wish you peace and healing in your grief, the deepest grief a parent, grandparent, or sibling has to face.
