Leach will go to bat for veterans, if elected

To the editor:

None of the candidates have military service but all of them have friends or family members that are veterans.

I support Jerry Leach for representative of the 82nd District for many reasons, but especially because Jerry is a supporter of our veterans. Not has been a supporter or not will be a supporter if elected. He supports our veterans, our KIAs and our young men and women in uniform currently.

Jerry is a member of AmVets Post 122 in Thompsontown.

Pennsylvania has the third largest National Guard in the county, only behind California and Texas. Not only do they support our local communities in times of crisis, they deploy to other states as needed during natural disasters which keeps our country strong and safe.

He participates in the annual Pennsylvania National Guard’s 28th Infantry Division Ride for Remembrance. This ride honors all 42 of Pennsylvania’s citizen soldiers that have been killed on active duty in service of our country since 9/11. If you knew how much it means to those families, that their children, fathers, husbands and brothers are remembered by people that never knew them in life, you would understand how significant this is.

Jerry also supports the Pa. National Guard Scholarship Fund. Pennsylvania has approximately 20,000 National Guardsmen, with 80 percent of them belonging to the 28th Infantry Division. The 28th Infantry Division Association provides four scholarships each year to 28th Infantry Division Pa. National Guard Soldiers or the children of a soldier that was killed in action. Over the years, funds for this have been raised through benefit dinners and raffles, which Jerry has attended and supported.

If elected, Jerry will support legislation that would help our Pennsylvania National Guard maintain its readiness to serve our communities and our country in times of emergency and disaster, as well as legislation for veterans, active duty service members and military families because he has a track record of support.
