To the editor:

As an animal lover, I believe that you can judge a person’s character by how they treat their pet.

Every year, thousands of innocent animals die at the hands of human cruelty because they are confined and left in extreme temperatures.

On Feb. 7, Congressman Tom Marino introduced the Keep Our Pets Safe Act of 2018, which makes it a federal offense to leave your pet in a car or confined space if the animal could die due to extreme temperature, lack of ventilation or lack of water. This legislation is crucial to limiting the number of cruel and inhumane deaths suffered by these trusting animals every year.

I fully support this bill and Congressman Tom Marino.
