Those on the left seek to chip away at our freedom

To the editor:

All too often of late do I read of the “gun banners” insisting on one or another limitation of Second Amendment rights. They confuse the public so as to impose their attempt at full confiscation. They snip at one aspect of gun ownership at a time.

The latest confusion is the Las Vegas whacko. Even though none of us know as yet the reason why this person massacred innocents, the anti-gun folks just use this example as an argument to limit gun ownership for the law-abiding citizen.

Yes, even the NRA is in support for restrictions on the sale of hardware that would turn a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic. The gun grabbers attack that organization as if it is somehow responsible for the actions of an evil person.

Why are they not demanding the same strict limits on owning automobiles which account for more deaths each year than do guns? Or how about restricting knives?

Now the argument the anti-gunners are voicing is the objection to the use of silencers on weapons. First of all it is a suppressor that limits discharge noise, it does not silence the weapon but reduces harmful ear blasts. And might I mention that a hunter in the field would be hindered from hearing surrounding threats in the woods if limited to ear muffs. The suppressor gives them ear protection at the time of the shot yet affords them the ability to hear surrounding noises that would otherwise be limited if wearing ear muffs.

I find it obvious that those who oppose the Second Amendment of our constitution are usually many of the same people that are opposed to the First. A good example is the limitation of free speech now ongoing in many of the leftist-controlled universities even to the indoctrination and the prohibition of free speech now often to be found in grammar and high school venues.

Let me make clear that the First amendment of our constitution never established a “separation of church and state.” That is a lie repeated over and over by anti-religious zealots. In fact the First amendment declares the right of free expression of religion and the only restriction is upon the government from establishing a religious doctrine or repressing the people’s right to freely voice religious thought. The people are not so limited, nor should they be.

The Second Amendment does not in and of itself declare any restrictions on the people’s right to own guns. And it was not written for the benefit of hunters as would many of the uninformed and propagandists claim. It was created as the means of protection for a free people from tyrants as exampled by King George whose attempted gun confiscation (Lexington and Concord) triggered armed rebellion. As Thomas Jefferson stated, to paraphrase — an armed people are citizens, an unarmed people are subjects.

Am I in favor of hardware that would change a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic illegally? Of course not. And neither is the NRA — of which I am a life member. The NRA is against the chipping away of our gun rights. And chipping away is the means of the left. Minimize one aspect of gun ownership at a time and one day all restrictions will become the norm.

I suspect the killer in Las Vegas had an agenda much in keeping with the acts of terrorism committed by others before him. He darn sure was not a member of the NRA. As hinted of late he may well have been radicalized to follow the faith of extremists whose goal is the imposition of their doctrine of hate upon all peoples. And the restriction of weapons would make that task easier as proven by the tyrants of Germany in the ’30s, the Communists in Russia, Cambodia, Cuba and the murders of so many others whose governments confiscated their only means of defense — their weapons.

Ask yourself: do you want to see the destruction of our Constitution and, therefore, the limitation of our freedoms? If not then observe the attempt by some to hide their goal to do so outright under the guise of eliminating its tenets one page at a time under false premises.

The First and Second amendments of our constitution are under attack by those who would welcome tyranny under their own banner of repression and they are abetted by the uninformed and/or indoctrinated, often guided by liberal/progressive/socialist passions.
