Commissioners to host another pinning ceremony

To the editor:

The Mifflin County Commissioners will host another pinning ceremony to honor Vietnam era veterans at the commissioners’ meeting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19 in the second floor meeting room of the Mifflin County Courthouse.

The purpose of the pinning ceremony is to recognize, thank and honor United States military veterans who served during the Vietnam War era.

If you are Vietnam veteran, please call the Mifflin County Veterans Affairs Office at (717) 248-6421 to register to receive a pin. In order for an accurate list to be prepared for the event, we ask that veterans please register by Monday, Oct. 16.

If you are a family member of a Vietnam veteran, or if you have a friend who is a Vietnam veteran, please let them know about the pinning ceremony. Some veterans do not receive the paper and we would like to honor as many veterans as possible.

An event to honor all of our military veterans is coming up on Thursday, Nov. 9, as the Second Annual Mifflin County Veterans Parade will take place in downtown Lewistown. We hope that a large contingent of youth groups, athletic teams, cheer groups and clubs take an opportunity to honor our veterans by creating a float or even just walking in the parade as a group.

Entry forms for the parade will be available at Fame EMS, The Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce and the commissioners’ office starting the week of Oct. 9. If you have questions about the parade, please contact Alan Sunderland at
