Milroy Lions Club supper to benefit Lower family

To the editor:

The Milroy Lions Club wishes to announce our February spaghetti supper. It will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, at the White Memorial Church fellowship hall on Main Street, Milroy. We will be serving from 4 to 7 p.m.

The menu will be the same: spaghetti, meatballs, salad, applesauce, bread, desserts and drinks.

As always, we will be donating the entire net profit to a worthy cause.

This month’s recipient is Shannon Lower. Shannon was born with cystic fibrosis. She has had a lifetime of health issues. She graduated from high school and got a degree from Penn College. She worked locally as a pharmacy tech for several years.

With declining health due to severe lung problems, she had to quit working and start nebulizer treatments three times daily, also continuous oxygen, frequent IV antibiotics and a bilevel positive air way pressure machine to sleep.

She is awaiting a double lung transplant and has had one disappointing trip to Pittsburgh UPMC because the donated lungs were unfit to use. The average waiting period for donated lungs is about 18 months. Shannon and her parents are optimistically hoping for an operation soon.

It is estimated that the Lowers will need about $30,000 to $40,000 to pay costs not covered by Shannon’s insurance.

A fund has been set up to help this family. Please send donations to: Lower Transplant Fund, c/o First National Bank of Pennsylvania, 32 Market St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Our last supper was a huge success. We apologize to anyone who had to wait to be served. The Lions Club thanks the general public for its support of our effort to help this very worthy cause.

We will accept donated desserts. Please bring them to the church anytime after 2 p.m.

We charge by donation only.

Come out and join us for a good meal and a time of fellowship.
