God tells us to respect governing authority

To the editor:

In the heat of the results of our election, I have seen so many negative things. The burning of our nation’s flag on college campuses across the country, rioting taking place in many cities, and many unhappy people broadcasting that Donald Trump is not their president and that they will not respect him.

I am utterly disgusted every time I open Facebook to such comments and turn on the news to see the way Americans are reacting.

In the Bible, God commands us to respect our governing authority, saying “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.” Romans 13:1. We do not have to like our governing authority, we do not even have to agree with everything they choose to do. But what we must do, is respect our governing authority.

Many people are so shocked that Donald Trump will be our new president, however God is not. He knew long before you or I that on Nov. 8, 2016 we would walk into voting booths and as a nation elect Donald Trump. I also believe that God knew what he was doing. Weather you are happy or not about the results of our election, I hope we all remember God’s command to respect our governing authority, because after all, we are still “one nation under God.”
