Profane election signs are not appropriate
To the editor:
When I was driving to McVeytown the other day, I noticed three prominently displayed signs on a property at Big Rig Lane. The content of these signs said “Hillary is a lying b—h.”
It reminded me of a quote by civic and religious leader Spencer W. Kimball. He said “profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly.” These signs are an example of this. Yes, the Constitution gives us the right of freedom of speech, but what comes with this right is the responsibility of good judgment. If one does not like the candidates running for any particular office there are ways to express one’s dissatisfaction. One can write editorials expressing their views and dislikes, share their thoughts on social media, but their main avenue of expression is at the voting booth. There you can vote for the candidate of your choice.
For someone to display such offensive signs along a public highway is both inappropriate and sets a poor example for our children. To me it reflects poor judgement and non-Christian values. Hopefully whoever put up these signs will realize how inappropriate they are and will take them down. Replace them with hundreds of Trump signs if it will make you feel any better, instead of resorting to posting inappropriate and denigrating signs.
