Even in elections, God works in mysterious ways
To the editor:
I don’t take the credit for these musings; they are a composite of ideas from my readings, discussions, contributions from men more learned than I. They may be the most honest political statements you will ever read. We are sickened with the current campaign and upcoming election. I consider myself an independent conservative and believe our country is on the brink of destruction.
I would never vote for Hillary. She is the epitome of everything I despise: dishonesty, conspirator, self-centered and views the loss of dignity and life of others acceptable if it furthers her financial and political standing.
On the flip side, I look and listen with embarrassment at every rude, insulting and sexist statement Trump makes. I can explain but won’t excuse it because I wasn’t raised in the part of New York where to survive and succeed you have to be aggressive, arrogant and offensive at all times.
Here’s a famous joke as to how God talks to us. A faithful Christian is stuck on the roof during massive flooding. Separately, three row boats come to rescue him. To each he says “No, I prayed and know God is coming to save me.” He drowns! In heaven he said, “I was faithful; you abandoned me, why?” God said, “I sent you three row boats.”
When we won WWII were we gentlemanly defeating Hitler, firebombing Germany, atom bombing Japan? Is God always nice on the battlefield? Or perhaps he might send an SOB like Gen. George Patton so the good guys can defeat the evil? God works through unique people to be war leaders. Perhaps we should re-define “nice.”
My message is, “Are you missing the boat?” Trump is not perfect; he’s crude, rude and offensive but that may make him the perfect warrior to save America and American exceptionalism.
