Big Tree Festival was huge success

To the editor:

Hope you didn’t miss the Big Tree Music and Art Festival benefit for the Juniata County Food Pantry on Sunday.

Three cheers for the Port Royal Lions Club who made the Lions Club Park available at the last minute to hold the festival!

The bands played all day and were absolutely amazing. The weather was perfect and many families spent the day enjoying the music, crafts and food.

Donations to the food pantry added up to an exciting $1693.50 plus 363 pounds of food and non-food! What a boost for our busy summer months and our backpack program that helps keep children from going hungry when they’re out of school.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to Jon Mertz, Nick and Katy Hohol, and all the many festival organizers who made this happen; the bands and musicians, many who traveled from other states just to share their time and talents to benefit the food pantry; the vendors and all the wonderful volunteers; and especially to the community who wholeheartedly supported the show and the food pantry.

If you missed this event, be sure to catch The Big Tree next summer. In the meantime, watch for the Seventh Annual Save Thanksgiving concert this fall featuring the return of your favorite local bands to make sure our families in need enjoy a good meal over the holidays.
