Penn State student says thanks for food drive help

To the editor:

I would like to take this time to thank everyone that participated in and made the canned food drive possible that was held at the Juniata Valley YMCA on Sunday, April 6. The food drive was for my freshman geography class project at Penn State University, Altoona Campus. The project had to be something that helped to alleviate poverty or hunger in my area.

There were a total of 215 items collected, which were taken to Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Lewistown. There, residents are educated on how to make meals from the limited resources of food they may have; how to plan and prepare meals while on a strict budget. There are slow-cooker classes offered where residents are taught the many meals that can be made in the slow-cooker from the food received at Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.

I would like to thank Stacy Falkner for her time and help in arranging the food drive, and to the Juniata Valley YMCA for allowing me to hold the food drive in their facility. And thank you to the many people who contributed items. The food drive was a huge success and very much appreciated. Thank you.
