Drive nets many pounds of food for the needy

To the editor:

The Juniata Touchdown Club and the Juniata County Food Pantry would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the Food Drive on Sept. 27. The community’s efforts made the Food Pantry the biggest winner of the night. Juniata won the friendly competition between the schools, with their fans donating 983 items. EJ’s fans donated 147 items. Combined, these donations totaled 1,148 pounds of food, and 163 pounds of non-food items.

We would like to thank the following businesses for generously donating gift certificates for the event: Original Italian Pizza (Tyson Hill), Bread of Life Restaurant, Weis Markets, First National Bank of Mifflintown, Sal’s OIP, Two Sisters, Mexico Market, Red Zone, Juniata Junction, Creme Stop, Pampered Chef consultant Cathy Leach, and Smith Farm Equipment.

The Juniata County Food Pantry serves more than 300 families every month, providing approximately a week’s worth of groceries to each family. The Food Pantry relies on generous private donations like yours to operate, and is always in need of volunteers. For more information, please call the pantry at 436-9718.
