Sees country turning into Sodom and Gomorrah

To the editor:

I read with interest Frank Cunningham’s Readers Opinion, in The (Aug. 21) Sentinel, and I believe it pretty well covers my question, which was: What is going on in our country?

We’ve got a majority (they say), of citizens who have no problem with the killing of unborn children, and I believe most justify this by calling it choice? Our president is, or was, in favor of even allowing babies to die, or be killed, in the event of botched abortions.

I would guess the reasoning behind the court’s legalization of abortion is that the unborn child is totally dependent on the mother to survive, and this being the case the unborn child can be removed, like perhaps an unwanted tattoo or tumor.

We are the only creature on this earth that needs to be taken care of by our mother, or someone else, in order to function independently. Using the logic that the child could not survive without its mother, than what’s the big deal about performing an abortion after the baby is born, so to speak? On the same logic, how old does a child need to be, before survival is possible without some sort of help from the parents, or others, and it follows that (post term abortion) should be allowed up to that time. The unborn is not considered a baby because the mother is allowed to do with it what she wants up to an arbitrarily set time, before birth. Isn’t it strange though, that if someone other than the mother, or her abortion provider, causes the newborn to die they can be charged with murder? Now I haven’t studied religion, but I do know that Jeremiah chapter 1 verses 4 and 5 states: “The word of the lord came unto Jeremiah saying, before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee, and before thou camest out of the womb, I sanctified thee.” That sounds an awful lot like we’re talking about an unborn child here, and not simply about an unwanted growth in the mother, that on a whim, can be removed and disposed of, and hopefully forgotten. It seems to me that if the Lord knew Jeremiah long before birth, then it follows that the Lord knows the parents of the unborn, and all other involved in preventing the child from ever being born. As previously stated, I am not a bible scholar, so I don’t know, but my prayer is that all aborted babies are given an immediate home in Heaven.

I do believe that Mr. Cunningham hit the nail on the head, in explaining the amoral behavior of a world of what I would simply call the “Me Generation.” I’m sure that multitudes of the Me Generation are professed Christians, picking and choosing, what parts of the Holy Bible to believe, what part to follow, what Commandments are important, and which ones can’t be correct because they conflict with the preferred behavior. The problem with this is that we cannot add to God’s word, with what we think it ought to be, and we can’t take away what we don’t like. It’s all or nothing. The Lord pretty well sums that up in Revelation, chapter 22 verses 18 and 19. It’s sad to say, but it seems that the U.S., and much of the so-called, civilized world has become one giant Sodom and Gomorrah.
