Reedsville Playground lunch program grateful

To the editor:

Now that the playground season is over, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Reedsville would like to thank many for helping us with our Reedsville Playground summer lunch program.

This began when we learned that 51 percent of Mifflin County’s children qualify for the National Free and Reduced Lunch program when school is in session. Under the organization of Pastor Carla Volland and Roseann Bright, and with the aid of many individuals and civic groups, we worked to fill the summer gap by providing two healthy lunches each week to all children who attended the Reedsville Playground, regardless of need.

Thanks go to the following groups for their willingness to support this worthy project: The Brown Township supervisors, the Milroy Lions Club, the Giant and Weis grocery stores, the Mifflin County chapter of Thrivent Financial, the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian and Reedsville United Methodist churches and many private donors and workers.

Next summer’s plans again call for two healthy lunches with two additional days of healthy snacks weekly for all children present at the Reedsville Playground.
