First-time voter supports Corbett for another term
To the editor:
My name is Jonathan Hayes, I am a 17-year-old high school student from McVeytown and I will be a first-time voter in 2014. I would like to take this time to share with everyone why I will be registering Republican and voting to re-elect Gov. Tom Corbett.
You see, in recent years, the Democratic Party advocates the idea that only a great and powerful big Government can be the benefactor of social justice for all Americans. But the Left is concerned with one thing: control. And they disguise this control as charity. Programs such as welfare, food stamps weren’t designed to lift Americans out of poverty – they were always intended as a mechanism for politicians to control the American public.
The idea anyone needs the government to get ahead in life is despicable. And even more important, this idea is a failure. Our communities are just as poor as they’ve always been. Our schools continue to fail children. Our prisons are filled with people who should be at home being mothers and fathers.
Gov. Tom Corbett has shown a record of honesty and backbone: He is pro-life, he believes in the free enterprise system, and he has created over 116,000 jobs since 2011. But to me personally, abortion is the most important issue. If anyone believes that abortion is “a woman’s right to chose,” I would like to point out that there are over 5.7 million adults who have signed up for adoption in the U.S. alone – don’t go telling people that a child is not wanted. And second, why do we consider a bacteria life on Mars but not a heartbeat life on Earth? Think about it – if you are reading this, that means that you weren’t aborted. Who are we to deny anyone the equal right to life? Our country was founded upon the very idea of life, as stated in the Declaration of Independence, and it’s time we start applying it once again.
So in 2014, please make sure to vote pro-life, whether you are a first time voter like me or have voted many times in the past. A vote for Gov. Tom Corbett is a vote for pro-life. The genocide today that is known as abortion shall soon come to an end because I am proudly part of the pro-life generation. Are you?
Jonathan C. Hayes
