Little League Series provides a magical, 11-day ride — again

It happened again this year on the last Sunday in August. And no matter how many times the Little League World Series in South Williamsport delivers a special closing act for all the world to see, we are left with the same feeling.

Gratitude.

We are grateful to the players and coaches for providing 11 days of pure competition and world-class sportsmanship.

We are grateful for the example they set, an exhibit, we might add, too often lacking on professional stages.

We are grateful to live in an area that can put on an event of this magnitude, a testament not just to a world full of Little League volunteers and staff but also to those who provided security and ensured safety and enjoyment the past two weeks.

We should never take for granted that events such as this don’t just happen, and they certainly don’t happen smoothly without capable, quality people doing their jobs.

The title went to the kids from Tokyo, Japan, and a hearty congratulations is due them for their dramatic, 6-4 win over Chula Vista, Calif., on Sunday.

But there were magical moments throughout the series.

And the biggest winner, apart from the Japanese kids and the other 15 teams, was our area.

Again.
