Joy and loss: It’s what’s inside of you

Nine-year-old Skyler Houtz, formerly of Renovo now of Lock Haven, is a profile of faith and courage as a young man on his way to beating his problematic disease.

Skyler Wool was a 22-year-old man full of energy and promise, the love of his family, taken too young by a car accident this past Saturday.

Quentin Wright, of Bald Eagle Area, is at the top of the national college wrestling world, having won the title in the 197-pound division at the NCAA championships in Des Moines, Iowa, for the Penn State Nittany Lions this past weekend.

Devin Stacey, a 17-year-old student-athlete, had his whole life in front of him before he died recently, allegedly of an overdose, just months before he was to graduate from Central Mountain High School.

The tragedy and trials, the inspiration and joys of life. Words cannot adequately express how high … and how low … life can be.

So we gathered a few inspirational quotes for our readers to contemplate:

“Strength is bred through adversity. Triumph is born from struggle.”

-M. A. Smith

“The most beautiful people I’ve known are those who have known trials, have known struggles, have known loss, and have found their way out of the depths.”

-Elisabeth Kibler-Ross

“Struggle is proof that you haven’t been conquered, that you refuse to surrender, that victory is still possible, and that you’re growing.”

-Jon Walden

“Nothing is more beautiful than a smile that has struggled through tears.”

-Demi Lovato

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”

-Winston Churchill

And finally, a poem we found:

Here is a poem that will help inspire you:

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you dare quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won had he stuck it out;

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow-

You may succeed with another blow.

Success is failure turned inside out-

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems so far,

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit-

It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
