Phyllis Jean House

Phyllis Jean House, 87, formerly of McVeytown, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at Valley View Haven in Belleville.

Born Jan. 6, 1932, in Bratton Township, she was a daughter of the late Nelson I. and Alma Goldie (Moist) Rutherford.

Surviving are: four children, Kathy Casner and husband, Gregg, of McVeytown, Barbara Omark, of Toms River, N.J., David House and wife, Tawnie, of Fort Littleton, and Sandra House, of Lewistown; a brother, Gary Rutherford and wife, Darlene, of McVeytown; nine grandchildren, Kara, Ryan, Allison, Olivia, Jordan, Lindsey, Nicholas, Rebecca and Cole; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Lilly; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was a son-in-law, Carl Omark; a sister, Shirley McVey; and two brothers, Stanley Rutherford and the Rev. Carl Rutherford.

She retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, her first official job after high school, with 40 years service.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Methodist faith, being baptized at the age of 13 on Oct. 21, 1945, by Pastor J.V. Royer in the McVeytown United Methodist Church. She was a devoted member, serving on various committees throughout the years.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Phyllis was an avid reader and word search aficionado, but her time was most enjoyed being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S. Market St., McVeytown, with Rev. Stephanie Rupert officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
