R. Richard (Dick) Tressler

R. Richard (Dick) Tressler, 76, of Reedsville, passed away following a brief illness, on Jan. 18, 2019, in Florida, where he spent his winter months.

Richard was born in Bellefonte on Sept. 23, 1942. He graduated from State College High School where he was a two-time state champion in wrestling. He continued on with his studies and received his master’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. There he was also inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame as a two-time All-American wrestler who was undefeated in four years of dual meets.

Richard married Elizabeth (Betsy) A. Tressler (Huet), who survives, on Aug. 14, 1990.

Richard worked as a teacher and a wrestling coach for Mifflin County School District for 30 years. In addition, he taught and coached wrestling five years in Reedsburg, Wis. During his coaching career, Richard was inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.

Richard was a member of Gold Wing Road Riders Association and Retread Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed traveling around the country with Betsy on his motorcycle. You could always find him watching sports and he was well known as an avid Penn State fan. He loved watching old time westerns and you couldn’t find a more dedicated Roy Rogers fan. For those who knew Richard well, breakfast will never be the same at Waffle Houses around the country now that he is gone.

Besides his wife, Richard is survived by a daughter, Melanie (Doug) Corl, Bellefonte; son, Randy Tressler, McVeytown; granddaughter, Ashley (Clay) Powers, Port Matilda; father, Roy Tressler, State College; brother, Dan (Sherri) Tressler, State College; sister-in-law, Sharon Tressler, Zion; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Crust Tressler; brothers: Jim and Gene Tressler; sister: Linda Pennypacker and infant sister Brenda Tressler.
