Esther A. “Bun” Smith

Esther A. “Bun” Smith, 86, of McAlisterville, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. at the Ohesson Manor, Lewistown.

Born on Aug. 22, 1932 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she is a daughter of the late Clarence and Esther Elizabeth “Cricket” (Zeiders) Travitz.

On Aug. 25, 1951, she was married to her late husband, John W. “Dutch” Smith, with whom she was blessed to share over 35 years of marriage, before his passing on Sept. 21, 1986.

Esther was a 1950 graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1951 graduate from the Harrisburg Hospital Nursing School.

At the start of her career, she was employed as a Registered Nurse for Dr. Charles Yoder in McAlisterville. Next, she was employed at McDonald’s, in Mifflintown. After which, she was employed by the Lewistown Hospital: Hospice the Bridge, as a registered nurse and ended her career in nursing with Community Resources for Independence in Lewistown.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the McAlisterville United Methodist Church and enjoyed being outdoors, flowers, trips with her family, reading and completing crossword puzzles and word searches.

She is survived by her daughter, Jodi M. Dillman, and her husband, Dennis, of McAlisterville; two granddaughters, Cassidy E. Dillman, and her companion, Tyson Troutman, of Mount Pleasant Mills and Caitlynn M. Dillman of McAlisterville; and one brother, William Travitz and his wife, Dottie, of Pittsboro, N.C.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Long and a brother, James Travitz.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. at the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, 33762 Route 35 N., McAlisterville, with Pastor Jennifer Heikes officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, at the church. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Smith’s memory to the McAlisterville United Methodist Church, 33762 Route 35 N., McAlisterville, PA 17049.
