Elder M. Singley

Elder M. Singley, 95, of Back Maitland Road, Lewistown, passed away at 4:05 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.

Born March 21, 1923, he was the only son of the late Elder M. and Louise J. (Gearhart) Singley. In addition to his parents, Elder was preceded in death by his sisters, Sara Alberta Singley, Betty Frances Singley and Thelma May (Singley) Smith. Following the death of his parents and sisters, Elder became the patriarch of the family.

Surviving are: nieces, Claudia J. (Smith) Adams, of Springfield, and Cynthia (Smith) Riegel, of Grasonville, Md. There are also numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews living in the U.S., Europe and Canada.

Elder was a World War II Army veteran, an industrial arts teacher at Lock Haven High School and he farmed locally for many years. He also held a master electrician’s license.

He attended Salem United Methodist Church in Milroy, where he remained a faithful Bible student and member of the Dawn Sunday School class.

Elder was a member of the Mifflin County Farm Bureau and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Reedsville.

A viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Reverend Karen McCachren officiating.

Interment will take place at Mount Rock Cemetery.
