Darle R. Bilger Sr.

Darle R. Bilger Sr., 82, of Blacklog, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, Nov. 20, 2018, at the home of his daughter, Sheree.

Born Nov. 2, 1936, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late W. Homer and Blanch M. (Renninger) Bilger. His wife, Florence E. (Foltz) Bilger, whom he married March 26, 1955, survives.

Also surviving are: three children, Darle R. Bilger Jr. and wife, Denise, of McVeytown, Sheree A. Stimely and husband, Thomas, of McVeytown, Angela K. Scott and husband, Bill, of Lewistown; three siblings, Freda “Sue” Haubrick, Dorothy Lee Fisher and husband, David, and William B. Bilger, all of Lewistown; seven grandchildren, Sheri Luft, T.J. Stimely, Nichole Lobingier, Shannon Wagner, Andrea Bilger, Lisa Bilger and Derek Bilger; seven great-grandchildren, Garrett, Shae, Austin, Maddyson, Katie, Logan, and Simone.

Preceding him in death was a son, Arlen R. Bilger, and a brother, Donald “Pete” Bilger.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he helped build the DEW Line in Alaska and he served as a security guard at the White Sands Proving Ground.

Early in life, he was employed as a truck driver for 28 years, and he later retired from Standard Steel in Burnham, where he was a security guard for 28 years.

He was a member of the Valley Point Church of the Brethren in Blacklog, and the National Rifle Association.

Darle enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling and the beautiful scenery surrounding the log house he designed and built along with his family in Blacklog. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Joel Snyder officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
